Released in 2015, Rocket League remains one of the most critically acclaimed sports games. The best way to describe it is "soccer with rocket-powered cars." It combines arcade-style soccer and vehicular mayhem while offering easy-to-understand controls along with fluid and physics-driven competition. The game features almost endless customization possibilities, online ranks, competitive tournaments, offline season mode, multiple game types, and casual and competitive online matches. Players can also join the special "Mutators" where the rules can be changed.
Rocket League is available on PC through the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The game became free-to-play in September 2020.
The game was developed by Psyonix. Based in San Diego, California, the studio is seen as one of the leading experts in Unreal Engine technology. Other titles from the studio include Gears of War, Mass Effect 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Bulletstorm, Unreal Tournament III, and Unreal Tournament 2004.
