UPDATE: PSN has changed its network service status to "All services are up and running."
The PlayStation Network went down Friday, the second recent outage. The current outage isn’t part of planned maintenance, so there’s no announced window for a return to operation.
The PlayStation network down status was announced at 12:14 p.m. EST, for both PS4 and PS3.
PlayStation Now is unavailable. Gaming and Social features are down. PlayStation Video and PlayStation Music are unavailable. The PlayStation store is still mostly operational, except for the payment system, so you can download, browse and redeem vouchers but will be unable to purchase games during the outage. Account Management will still allow you to mess with your account details or create an account, but you won’t be able to sign into the PlayStation Network.

A survey of PlayStation Network and Xbox Live downtime covering outages recorded between Nov. 2015 and Sept. 2016 found rough parity between the reliability of the two services. PSN users faced 20 days with “major problems,” or about an outage every 16 days, while Xbox Live had one less outage for the same period, for an average of 16.8 days between network service outages.
Two major releases this week have been hampered by the outage: Dragon Ball FighterZ and Monster Hunter: World. The list of top PlayStation Store downloads for 2017 suggests the games and players most affected by the outage. The top three — Call of Duty: WWII, Destiny 2 and Friday the 13th: The Game — are all highly dependent on PSN features unavailable Friday. Shooter, brawlers, hunters and slashers will just have to hang until the issue is resolved.
